The Brief

The author argues that the Israel-UAE deal brings the bogus peace industry back in business. He reminds us that this peace process aims to wage war on Palestinians. The author considers this deal as a continuation of the process begun by Jared Kushner, which is known as “outside-in” strategy, meaning recruiting lots of Arab regimes to put pressure on Palestinians to surrender to the Israeli diktats. Jonathan Cook argues that the Israel-UAE deal exposes that there are benefits for bipartisan foreign-policy elite in Washington, who wished a long time ago to cement publicly the relationships between the most reliable allies, in this case Israel with the Gulf states. This deal, according to the author, sharpens the battle lines across the Middle East from Syria to Yemen. Also, this deal expresses great legitimacy on these theocratic dictatorships. This deal puts the Palestinians against the Gulf States and this means more isolation of the Palestinians; even if they resist such a deal they will be presented as “terrorists.”
